Well, they will be there, but they don't govern your life nearly as much.
your sims's mood won't depend on how full or empty their bladder is.
They said something about "discrete moods"
and instead of needs you have these other things that are more like how people work.
But you'll still be able to do things that would fulfill needs like that, if that's what you're worried about.

In the Sims 3, it will still be a challenge to juggle 6 people and keep them all alive and happy.
