What do People think of Americans or the U.S.A? - serp3821 - 09-04-2009 05:25 AM

I wonder, I`m American and I want to know what other people think about the U.S.
Do they think we are ignorant, fat, or too much?
And what about the American accent?
What do other people think worldwide about the American English?
I think its boring and plain.
You don`t have to be scared about writing the truth
I want to hear it! {yes} Big Grin

I'm a little tentative of this thread seeing as on other forums this kind of thing always ends up as bad news.

I have mixed feelings on Americans, but I can't really judge a whole country seeing as it's filled with a bunch of people I've never met, you know?

I LOVE how enthusiastic and friendly Americans are. I've been to America a couple of times and never met such welcoming, helpful people in all my life. And I love American accents. Well, some of them. Tongue Honestly, I want to live in America one day, so it can't be all bad! Big Grin

I don't like that a fair share of Americans can be ignorant or a little self-absorbed. Sometimes I think America gets this idea because they're country is very populous and they have a lot of influence and power. I don't like that SOME Americans, not all, think their country is the best in the world, or superior in any way. And lastly, I don't like how American English has butchered the English language... I really don't see why Americans can't just speak and spell original, normal English rather than pointlessly altering a bunch of words and christening it as their own language.

As for being fat... meh, the UK is just as bad, so I have no comment on that. Tongue

This is NOT meant to offend anyone at all! Everyone here is amazing. You asked, and I answered honestly. {blush}

I would also post something about my view of America politically, but is politics too controversial for this forum?

I don't think politics is too bad for the forum. Just be sure to keep it friendly here. Wink

We will be watching...

OK.

I like Barack Obama, and he has created a whole new image of America to me. One that's more socialist, and I admire that. His views are very similar to mine.

In the past, I thought there was slightly too much capitalism. I prefer a society in which everybody is helping everybody, and everybody gets a fair chance. At the same time, I think communism is a bit far authoritarian, and I understand that America doesn't want to work as a communist society. If instead of authoritarianism you apply libertarianism to a left-wing society, then that's quite socialist. And that's good, I think.

What Barack Obama is doing, is he's adding in a bit of socialism, and I really like that way of thinking. Previously, I thought there was too much of a 'you win, you lose' atmosphere. I like it now.

Sorry if I offended anybody.
Hope I phrased that alright.
