The whole neighborhood simulates at once! - something - 25-03-2008 12:40 AM

In The Sims 3, you still control only a single household at a time, but your neighbors advance, change, get new jobs, develop relationships, and otherwise advance alongside you -- whether you're paying attention or not. A downtown area with places to eat, shop, and work (think: bookstore, park, clothing store, movie theater, bistro) offers a central hub for socialization, though at launch (EA's targeting 2009) some buildings may be little more than facades. Sims may be able to enter a clothing store, for example, but players won't be able to follow -- that's one possible area for growth in the inevitable expansion packs.

Plusses: Allowing your Sims meaningful interaction outside of their terrarium throws some welcome chaos into what used to be a closed, controlled system. Running into an ex-husband at the movie theater with his new wife -- that's definitely something new and different and way more "human." We're also psyched for the ant-farm aspect: catching the A.I. inhabitants doing strange and unexpected things during your Sims' day-to-day downtime.

Possible Pitfalls: If a tree falls in a forest and nobody's around, does it make a sound? Or -- if you don't catch my drift -- if an A.I. Sim gardener falls in love with the A.I. pizza delivery boy and sets up a picnic outside the science lab, does it even matter if I don't see it happening? Keep in mind that the cost of such complexity will no doubt be incurred in system requirements. There's a reason they haven't done this before.

i am kind of worried about that, because i like to work on one family and then go and play on another, sometimes there'll be something that i want to happen later, so i just go on later and have it happen...
it is kind of good too, because i know that when i have a teenager and she is in a relationship with a boy and then she grows up but then i have to go on his family and play on his family until he grows up...
Thank God, though i have the inteenimater (which allows teens to dao adult relationship things) and aging cheats, so i can just tell him to grow up then...but it would be for the better and worst for towns to have simultaneous aging...

that is personally my favorite feature. Did you notice that townies never willingly woohoo, make-out, or even flirt! I couldn't be a townie i would be bored to death!
