RE: Sims 3: Late Night - lebeau - 01-11-2010 07:28 PM My original focus in the game was on celebrity and career. I planned to let my Sim "play the field" socially at least until I finished exploring those aspects of the game. But to my surprise, Keith got serious about Jun pretty quickly. Within a few Sim weeks, Keith wanted to propose. I make it a policy to give my Sims what they want when I can reasonably do so. I usually have them forgo their baser instincts. But if a Sim asks to propose, I usually let them. This was no exception. I was equally surprised when a week or so later, Keith was ready to tie the knot. He rented out the Aquarius for the wedding. Usually, by the time my Sims get married, they have the reward that gives a Sim 100% successful parties. But that was not the case for Keith. I usually also have weddings at home. But since Keith and Jun like to party, I thought it would be fun to get hitched at a posh club. Long story short, Keith nearly got stood up at the altar. About 1/2 of Keith's party guests (including Jun) were a no-show. A quick call to Jun during the party got the bride to the ceremony on time. There was much dancing, but the party was only a moderate success. This is uncommon for me as a player because I have usually rigged the outcome. So I'm not sure what factors caused the party to be less than a home run. In terms of my primary focus (or foci), Keith reached the top of his career path and became a 5-star celeb in short order. As such, I decided to concentrate on Jun. First, I gave her a slightly more conservative wardrobe (although her tiny purple bikini stayed. If you've got curves like that, you may as well show them off poolside). Then I began building her skills for her career in medicine. Meanwhile, I sent Keith out to parties for celeb opportunities (order a drink here, dance for hours there). And once again, Keith surprised me with a request. At a party populated by vampires, Keith wanted to be turned. Jun had asked for the same thing not long ago and I decided against it. But since both of them had now asked and I had completed all of my original goals, I decided to allow it. For anyone who doesn't yet know how this works, I'll review the process of becoming a vampire. First, you have to have a friend who is a vampire. It's as simple as asking to be turned. They will do so and your Sim will get a neutral moodlet reflecting that they have been bitten. 3 days later, the transformation will be completed. Being a vampire does change the game in a lot of subtle ways. Yes, your Sim can go out in sunlight. But there are consequences for remaining out in the sun. I have yet to test the boundaries on this. While Sim vampires aren't immortal, their lifespans are much longer. I currently have the game set on "epic", so Keith has over 1,000 days before he ages to an adult. Obviously, vampires have to feed. Since I have somewhat limited space in my apartment, I ditched most of my kitchen and used the space for other things. Keith has been feeding on friends. Surprisingly, I believe this is a positive social interaction for both parties! There are a few other minor changes. You can read Sims' minds (to find out their partner, favorites or career, etc). Vampires are more powerful at night and can gain skills faster. They run faster. They can "hunt" which reveals who in the room is or is not a vampire (though most vamps are pretty obvious). And they can make a Sim think about them (but I have no idea how this is an advantage). I made the transformation with every intent of reversing it pretty quickly. But so far I've had fun playing as a vampire. So instead of immediately switching back to human form, I have allowed Keith to turn Jun as well. Eventually, I may have them turn back (maybe before having kids) but for now I am enjoying playing my vampire couple. More to come on the dark side of fame... (like Brat Pitts and Angelina Jolies kid, so it isn't totally unrealistic) If EA doesn't correct this with a patch I hope someone will make a mod. If the vampires are biting non vampire sims autonomously, soon EVERY sim in the city will become one. Quote:And I though Keith and Jun were moving fast! Post pictures! Is one of them your selfsim?

Keith was just a character I put together in an attempt to play the new features I wanted to play effectively. We both have brown hair and brown eyes. But beyond that, I didn't make any effort to make him resemble me. I'll have to see about taking some screenshots. That's not something I typically do when I play. But I'll give it a shot. Hopefully I can find some time after the kids go to bed tonight. RE: Sims 3: Late Night - Cororon - 01-11-2010 09:36 PM Is Jun the asian looking woman with big glasses? She is my selfsims only enemy! Jun was Franks girlfriend before my selfsim told him to break up with her. I will keep my selfsim a young adult as long as possible, so she can go to the university if that will be in an EP. I made my selfsim too early in Sims 2 when I only had the base game. She died before I learned about the Drink of Life. I don't like to place new copies of deceased sims or to resurrect them. It feels wrong and doesn't fit the way I'm playing. RE: Sims 3: Late Night - lebeau - 02-11-2010 01:23 PM (01-11-2010 09:36 PM)Cororon Wrote: Is Jun the asian looking woman with big glasses? I haven't seen Frank in my game. But did have a thing going with her roommate Barry Tenderlove. They weren't dating, but they were romantic interests. That continued up until recently. Barry saw her at a club while there were rumors about her. He started pointing and laughing, so she asked to just be friends. He didn't get mad. They just became friends. I get what you're saying about aging. If I were playing a selfsim, I'd feel the same way. I assume you have your lifespan set to "epic". That's usually plenty of time to get some life fruit and death fish and make up some ambrosia. I'll be curious to see what the next EP is. I'm not sure if we'll get a University expansion or not. If I had to guess, I'd say the next one will either be pets or season. But I'd love to be wrong. Neither of those ideas appeals to me all that much. Really, I'd love another expansion similar to this one but with different stuff. I feel like the social complexity Late Night added was badly needed. I've got a lot more to report on. So I'll post more in a bit. RE: Sims 3: Late Night - lebeau - 02-11-2010 03:56 PM Bugs - I've read about some bugs with LN. It seems the butler can be quite buggy. And I've been avoiding work outside of rabbit holes as they seem to be buggy as well. (Sometimes you can't do the work and even if you do you don't get as much credit as just going to work so why bother.) I ran into an odd bug shortly after Keith married Jun and I want to go ahead an mention it before I forget. I noticed right away that Jun never got tired. I had no idea why this would be, but I wasn't worried about it. Jun was in the medical career and her logic skill was woefully inadequate for her job. So, I started her playing chess all night while Keith slept. Then, one day at work something spilled on her and she came home stinky. She showered, but the stink wouldn't go away. I tried several different things, but I couldn't get rid of the stinky moodlet. I figured this must be somehow related to the bug that kept Jun from needing to sleep. For a while, I decided it was worth the trade-off to build Jun's logic skill. But then I noticed that her logic skill wasn't increasing any more no matter how long she played chess. In fact, it seemed her motives, skills and moodlets had all frozen in place. I tried a few things to fix this including some testing cheats. But nothing worked. So, as a last ditch effort, I had them move out of Keith's 1-bedroom apartment into a relatively affordable penthouse. The move was necessary anyway. That 1-bedroom was getting pretty cramped. And the commute was a killer! Thankfully, the move reset Jun so she was no longer stinky and could build her skills again. Celebrity - For a long time (about 6 weeks Sims time) I only saw the positive side of celebrity. I got lots of gifts, discounts and recognition. But then Keith had his first rumor spread about him! He went out on the town and started dispelling rumors. But then he made a mistake that only made things worse. By this point, both Keith and Jun were vampires. And I had been having them feed on humans pretty reguarily. In fact, I'd dismantled my kitchen to make room for other things. But during his campaign to dispell nasty rumors about digging through the trash, Keith got hungry and fed in public. Once word got out about the public feeding, there was no more dispelling rumors. Keith was sunk with the public. I let him hang out at the loft and work on various screenplays while Jun built up her own celebrity status by attending parties and doing the club scene solo. Just as Keith's time as a pariah was coming to an end, it was Jun's turn. After Keith's debacle, I had reinstalled the kicthen and my vampire coule was feeding primarily on plasma juice (though sometimes they would snack on a houseguest in the privacy of their penthouse). So she was able to go out and dispell rumors without setting off a public relations nightmare. But the paparazi wasn't done with Keith. As soon as Jun successfully ended her public disgrace, they were slandering Keith again. This time, he wasn't going to take it lying down. He went right to City Hall and sued for slander. He was successful and received a nice-sized settlement (less legal bills) and was cleared immediately. We haven't had any nasty rumors since the lawsuit. I'm not sure if a successful lawsuit disuades the paparazi or if it's just a coincidence. But I'll definitely be litigious in the future. Groups - I have had a few group outings with more than 2 people. Not a lot to report. Most of the time, these work out all right. Every now and then, something weird and quirky will happen. I haven't experimented much with convincing Sims to do things to other Sims yet. But that's deinitely coming. I want to influence some of the other Sim relationships either by playing match-maker or ripping them apart. As an experiment, Keith had his good friend Emmy Stanley insult her husband, Alan. I think I'd like to drive a wedge between them and encourage Emmy to move on to someone who is a better fit. But I'm not putting a lot of effort into this side project. By this point, I've played through most of the big elements of the expansion except for bands and mixology. But those are definitely on the horizon. I'll move away from reporting on the new elements of the expansion to give a little update on my Sims. Keith and Jun seem to have a really healthy marriage in spite of the fact that they both have demanding jobs and the stresses of celebrity. At one point, they wanted kids. But their penthouse loft was too small and a move wasn't in the cards. Thankfully, they've both enjoyed a great deal of success in their careers. With that has come financial security. With the idea of starting a family in the future, Keith and Jun decided to move out of the high rises of down town and into the gated community of exclusive celebrity homes! No elevator. No paparazi. A garage. A pool. And, yes, a hot tub! The couple wasted no time in making use of the hot tub. And now, it looks like that family will be started sooner rather than later. Coming soon - the domestic life of celebrity vampires. RE: Sims 3: Late Night - Cororon - 03-11-2010 02:47 AM My sims boyfriend Spencer also had his energy and hygiene bars frozen and that stinky moodlet. I then played my own household for a while and went back. Then he was normal again. My selfsim moved to a 1 bedroom apartment. It's small but cozy and have a nice view from the big windows. It's difficult to use the camera view so high up. It moves too fast when you use the arrow keys. It's not a bug, EA just forgot to adjust the camera for use in high rise buildings. Many people complain about the nightclubs, that they often are empty and lack atmosphere. Sims don't socialize there and behave like loners, eating and reading books and go home. They don't notice when my sim dances on the table. ![]() My sim has been invited to a couple of parties, but they sucked! At one party the host (a sim made by me but modeled after a friend of mine) started to cook for the guests, but left the pot on the stove and went to bed. At another party at the Littler family Reuben, Renee and the others in the family went to bed when my sim arrived. One of the guests watched tv, another was in the bathroom and the third one played drums. Boring! And the mobile phone keeps ringing! My sim get the same opportunities all the time. To workout for 4 hours, dance for 3 hours or eat at the bistro. No thanks! Stop bothering me! ![]() What's the point with celebrities if every sim becomes one? I think there are more celebs than normal sims in my game. And vampirism is the new flu! >.< The game is beautiful and I like the idea with the city, clubs and apartments but it feels unifinished just like the earlier EPs. EA must make a big update this time. RE: Sims 3: Late Night - lebeau - 03-11-2010 01:30 PM (03-11-2010 02:47 AM)Cororon Wrote: My sims boyfriend Spencer also had his energy and hygiene bars frozen and that stinky moodlet. I then played my own household for a while and went back. Then he was normal again. Lots of excellent points. I've encountered all of the situations you described. There's definitely some bugs that need to be worked out. And high rise buildings don't work especially well in the game. (That's a big part of why we moved to a traditional house.) I like the feel of the nightclubs. I think they have a lot of personality. But, you've got to get a group going there or else the Sims will just do their own thing. I don't think I've ever seen a Sim read a book in a night club. If I did, I'd get them dancing or joining a jam session. But you're right. It seems like they could be having a better time without my intervention. Most of the parties I've gone to have been as lame as the ones you described. I like them because they are a good way to break into a new social circle. (Keith met Jun at a party where he didn't know a single person.) But NPCs are sure bad hosts! Sometimes, I don't even go to the party anymore. I'll let Keith or Jun go by themselves while I work on something else with the other one. I've stopped answering the phone a lot of the time. Like you said, it's always the same opportunities. And some of them don't even work! We also agree about too many vampires and celebrities. These should have been relatively rare. But I'd say more than half of the population of Bridgeport is either a celeb or a vamp. And many are both. I still love this expansion though. I have been having more fun playing sims 3 than ever! I'm sure an update is coming that will fix a lot of these issues. |
